It is located at the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean coast of Namibia and south of Angola from the Kunene River south to the Swakop River. It has been called the Skeleton Coast because of the ghostly shipwrecks that are beached along the shoreline of this remote area.
There are stories of sailors who walked around this remote place searching for vegetation for survival. Bones of whales and seals are found, but there are also claims of finding human skeletons. The Bushmen referred to the place as The Land God Made in Anger, while the Portuguese refer to it as the Gates of Hell.
It is an adventure to travel to this remote part, and the only way to get there is by road through the rugged mountains of Damaraland.
