Picking Wine: Cheap Wines That Taste Great

by Alfred on May 14, 2014

Knowing how to pick wine is essential: it can mean the difference between $100 and $25. Not all good wine is expensive. So, before you ask your girl to dinner, make sure you know which bottle of wine you should choose.

The value of wine doesn’t always equate to taste and quality. So, you should not always base your choice of wine on its price tag. Learn to pick wine the right way. There are a lot of wines that taste great without the huge price tag.

Great-Tasting Cheap Wines

If you’re planning on spending $20 on wine so that you can have more cash for other things for your date, you ought to know these wine bottles. They’re cheap, at $20 each, but they taste great. You won’t even know that they’re inexpensive (and neither will your date!).

  • Cotes du Rhone: Cotes du Rhone from Northern Vienne is a cheap bottle of wine that is identical to South of France’s Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Even if it’s not made from 13 kinds of grapes, it still tastes great. This wine is great paired with stew, chicken, and barbeque.
  • Chianti Classico: Also a great $20 wine that you should try out. Its more expensive counterpart is the Brunello di Montalcino, which costs $150. Both wines are made from Sangiovese grapes, which is great with foods that have sauce and cheese.
  • Ribera del Duero: When you pick wine that is a bit cheaper than not-so-expensive wines, go for Ribera del Duero. Compared to a $45 Rioja Gran Reserva, it is just $20 with the same great taste. Both are made from Tempranillo grapes, which make good food pairing with grilled meat and seafood dishes.

Before you pick wine for your dinner, make sure that you research about the wines available at your chosen restaurant. Alcohol is a very good pairing with so many kinds of foods. So, when going out to dinner, make sure that you choose the right kind of wine for the right kinds of food.

Searching the Internet or taking advice from a sommelier would be great to learn more about wine and their food pairings.
