How to Buy Your Next Trusted Pair of Jeans

by guest on November 22, 2014

Simply because you own several of those trusted pairs doesn’t mean you know the ins and outs of buying jeans. The shopping mall racks are deluged with different brands, styles, materials, and price ranges. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by all the different company’s sales pitches, so here are a few tips to keep you on track and on the right “rack.”

Make Sure It Fits

The fit must be comfortable. Don’t join the skinny or baggy fads. Leave the low-rise pairs to the briefs-flaunting teens. Keep with the classic tapered legs and medium rise. Achieve consistent clean lines with a tailored shirt and this slim pair.

Dodge the Psychedelic Washes and Giddy Rinses

Stay with the all-time natural faded look. Accents like superfluous zippers, flaps, belts, and chains are just good for costumes and not at all wearable off-stage. If you want some color in your jeans, by all means, opt for dark hues and masculine shades instead of pastel and playful tints.

Roll a Single Cuff Or None At All

There was a time when jeans rolled at the ankles were a no-no. Current fashion is more forgiving and single-rolled cuffs (also called selvage, selvedge or self-edged) are allowable. That’s the max, though; don’t fold any higher or your pants’ hems will look like donuts.

No Gaggy-Legged Jeans

They’re definitely passé and dowdy in the looks department; you shouldn’t be caught dead wearing them.

Can’t Decide?

Get Levi’s 501 and you’ll never go wrong. The pair is a classic and never goes out of style. Like any classic, they wear and tear gracefully. They’re ageless and versatile, and the next generation will appreciate them. That’s a great buyer’s idea: buy your next pair of jeans as if you were buying a family heirloom.
